When we talk about Information Security we need to understand what it is.
Information Security is the practice of protecting information by mitigating information risks. It is a part od information risk management and it typically involves preventing or at least reducing, the probability of unauthorized/inappropriate access, use, disclosure, disruption, deletion/destruction, corruption, modification, inspection, and the recording of the devaluation of information. However, it may also involve reducing the adverse impacts of incidents. Information may take any form, e.g. electronic or physical, tangible (e.g. paperwork) or intangible (e.g. knowledge). Information Security’s primary focus is the balanced protection of the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data (also known as the CIA triad) while maintaining a focus on efficient policy implementation, all without hampering the organization productivity. The CIA triad of confidentiality, integrity, and availability is at the heart of Information Security and key concept of Information Security.
Cybersecurity refers to the body of technologies, processes, and practices designed to protect networks, devices, programs, and data from attack, damage or unauthorized access. Cybersecurity may also be referred to as information technology security or computer security.
What is Cybersecurity month?
Cyber Security Awareness Month is an internationally recognized campaign held each October to inform the public of the importance of cybersecurity. The European Cybersecurity Month (ECSM) is the EU’s annual cybersecurity awareness campaign that takes place each October across Europe. The ECSM aims to raise awareness about cybersecurity threats and promote cybersecurity among citizens and organizations through education and sharing of good practices. Moreover, in the USA there is the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM). NCSAM is a collaborative effort between the government and the industry to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and to ensure that all Americans have the resources they need to be safer and more secure online.
